Rwanda: a project to distribute 100,000 more laptop

The project One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) is set to receive 100,000 more laptops in an attempt to ensure that all administrative sectors in the country have enabled 416 OLPC schools.

The project, launched in 2008 by President Paul Kagame has seen approximately 80,000 laptops distributed across 145 schools countrywide.

“We will receive an additional 100,000 laptops in may 2012,” Nkubito Bakuramutsa, Coordinator of OLPC in the Ministry of education to The new Times in an interview yesterday.

He explained that the first phase that includes five schools per district soon coming to an end.

“We target to complete the first phase by the end of March. Now that all the district closed, we are moving into the sector. We want to ensure that all sectors of the 416 countrywide have enabled the OLPC schools, “he asserted.
